Discovered by Howard Hughes in 1941 and cast for his movie The Outlaw, much of Jane Russell’s early career was beset by controversy concerning the promotion of her rather obvious ‘assets.’  Indeed, The Outlaw was itself outlawed for some time, and later movies would also be subjected to censorship.  However, she was not without ability, proving to be a hit alongside Marilyn Monroe in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953).
